Krasik is local slang for Pokrovsk, a mining town in the Donetsk region of Ukraine formally known as Krasnoarmiisk.
These photographs were taken at various City Day and Miner’s Day celebrations in Pokrovsk between 2015 and 2018, during the ongoing war in Donbas but before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Today Pokrovsk is at the frontline of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Once home to around 60,000 people, the town is now a battered shell where few civilians remain.
All profit from this book will be donated to volunteer groups evacuating civilians from Pokrovsk and the surrounding region.
