IWAO YAMAWAKI

Iwao Yamawaki was born in Nagasaki in 1998 and studied architecture at the Tokyo School of Art from 1921 to 1926. In 1930, Yamawaki left Tokyo to broaden his knowledge at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Initially, he attended the workshop for architecture and interior design, but quickly became drawn to photography and studied under Walter Peterhans, under whose direction he developed into a versatile photographer. From the beginning, a focus of his work was architectural photography.
