The Story

«HARTES BROT» is a photographic essay by Basel based photographer Moritz Schermbach. What began as a still life study in his flat, developed into a series of images that explores different genres of photography and the presence of the artist himself with his visual style in image-making.

Moritz Schermbach undertakes a journey through his understanding of photography and its ability of telling a story and showing something and therefore challenging his place as a photographer in the present time. A journey which takes the viewer into a rather gloomy atmosphere, with careful arrangements of various subjects and scenes – playfully constructed and told.
